What this site is

This site is an independent travel guide to Maliau Basin Conservation Area. We are not a tour operator, we do not hold permits, we do not employ guides, and we do not sell or provide travel services. We are not affiliated with Yayasan Sabah or with the management of Maliau Basin Conservation Area.

Enquiries submitted through this site are passed to a licensed Sabah tour operator. Any contract for travel services is between you and that operator, on their terms, and not with us. Their booking conditions, cancellation policy, payment terms and liability provisions govern your trip.

Accuracy of information

We take reasonable care to ensure information here is accurate at the time of publication, and we state our sourcing standards on the about page. However:

• Prices, itineraries, fees and access rules change without notice and are set by third parties.
• Distances, timings and difficulty ratings are indicative and vary with conditions, group pace and weather.
• Facility status including trails, structures and camps can change or close, including at short notice on safety grounds.
• We do not publish permit or conservation fee figures, because they are set by Yayasan Sabah and change. See the permits page.

Safety and fitness

Maliau Basin is remote, rugged and isolated terrain with limited access, communications and safety infrastructure. Trekking itineraries involve multi-day walking on uneven ground, river crossings, rope-assisted sections and basic camp accommodation.

Any difficulty or fitness guidance on this site is general information, not medical or safety advice. You are responsible for assessing your own fitness and that of your group, for disclosing relevant medical conditions to your operator, and for obtaining appropriate travel insurance. Follow your guide's instructions at all times.
